And if you think that getting the MAC and PC printers to work nice together took too much effort, you should have seen the effort taken to get all those boxes playing nice The only thing we've debated is NT/2k/XP's LPR capabilities; you can't get it working reliably, I've set up entire sites with the thing.

Every linux site I go to, Redhat, Mandrake, etc., talks about the difficulty in getting printers to work. I mean, this is BASIC! Why have an operating system that doesn't support a printer. One more try and then its fdisk away! why buy a printer that needs a £100 driver called windows What a stupid answer!

The point is that it is not easy enough to get things straight. It takes lots of time and some genius and some luck to get things work under linux. I enjoy doing these for fun but linux obviously is not a good substitute for MS Windows for most novices. Bill Gates should not be threatend by any talk of linux.

seems to be a problem with a lot of printers. I don't see any ink-jet printers producing 300 ppi consistently. Offset presses with 2540-lpi halftone screens have a hard time producing even 150 ppi; ink-jet printers work the same way and have the same constraints, so 1440-dpi ink-jets are not producing 300-ppi

Printer problems
Because of the vagaries of printers and the fact that reports are aimed at the printer while forms are aimed at the screen, the two device dependencies are different and so the text rendering may be different. Even if you get it to work on one machine, another user with a different printer might get a different

Sadly, in your case, Xerox Laser printers with a resolution high enough to trigger this bug probably make up around 1.8 per cent of sales. And there is a work-around.
